ELECTRICITY TARIFF: NATIONAL PRESIDENT, IYLN WROTE AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU.
AN OPEN LETTER TO MR PRESIDENT.
His Excellency,
Sen Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu GCFR.
Nigeria President.
Dear Mr. President,
#80;000 ELECTRICITY BILL AGAIN
I am writing to you as the National President of the Intellectual Young Leaders Network (IYLN) to address the concerning proposal by the Vice Chancellors of public universities in Nigeria to impose an electricity fee of 80,000 Naira per student as your Excellency can see it here;

We are deeply troubled by the Vice Chancellors' decision to hide behind the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and place public universities under the "Band A" category, which has tripled or quadrupled the electricity bills for these institutions. This move is clearly an attempt to shift the burden of inadequate power supply onto the students, who are already struggling with the challenges of accessing quality education.
Should Nigerians believes that the VCs are trying to collected the shares of the NELFUND #20:000 each per students upkeeps or from the federal government students loan yet to be receiving by the student's institution, have the VCs forgot that this is a future repayment through the beneficiaries BVN, FEAR GOD !. In fact, the VCs families needs to ask them as a matter of urgency to please stop the heartless step.
Mr. President, we implore you to intervene urgently in this matter. The proposed electricity fee of 80,000 Naira per student will undoubtedly place a significant financial burden on Nigerian families, many of whom are already facing economic hardships. This decision will further exacerbate the frustrations of students nationwide, who have long endured the consequences of the country's epileptic power supply.
It is important to note that majority of the Vice Chancellors who are proposing this fee have themselves benefited from free education and had the privilege of enjoying a conducive learning environment. It is deeply concerning that they now appear to be prioritizing their own financial interests over the needs of the students they are mandated to serve.
We strongly believe that the provision of adequate and reliable electricity is a fundamental requirement for the development of a quality educational system. Without a stable power supply, students are unable to engage in necessary research, access online resources, and maintain a comfortable learning environment.
Mr. President, we urge you to intervene swiftly and call on the Vice Chancellors to suspend this proposed electricity fee. Any attempt to increase the financial burden on students will be met with strong opposition from the Nigerian people, and we are prepared to investigate the situation in our federal government schools nationwide.
The future of our nation lies in the hands of our youth, and we cannot afford to jeopardize their educational opportunities. We look forward to your prompt action on this critical issue and remain committed to working alongside your administration to ensure a brighter future for all Nigerians.
Intellectually Your's,
Comrade Prince Akinola Adams
National President IYLN.
